Asian Members of WCA (World Cube Association)

Tyson Mao
At the forefront of the cubing world, Tyson has spent the last couple of years resurrecting Rubik's Cube tournaments all around the country, and has brought the media spotlight to the sport of Speedcubing.
As a recent Caltech graduate and founding member of the World Cube Association (WCA), Tyson is part of a dynamic network of dedicated cubers around the globe.
Between music, friends, and his own quest to beat the cube, Tyson has found his niche as a spokesperson for Speedcubing. Never one to shy away from the spotlight, Tyson was a contestant on the WB's second season of "Beauty and the Geek", where he brought the art of Speedcubing to national television. He has also been featured in several magazines, including Wired and Hyphen, and has made several television appearances, including a guest spot on Twins and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Tyson's mission is to teach others to solve the cube so the community will continue to grow - he's even taught Will Smith to solve the Rubik's Cube for an upcoming feature film.

Shotaro "Macky" Makisumi
A genius? A real-life superhero? This amazing 16-year-old holds dozens of Rubik's Cube records, and he has become a celebrity of sorts in the world of Speedcubing.
Possessing a rare blend of inner-serenity and competitiveness, Macky is at the top of his game. He has set the bar for the elite cubers around the world - the elusive sub-15-second average, and he inspires awe from everyone he meets.
Currently going into his junior year of high school, Macky's focus has become more about academics and college prep, though he still makes the cube a main part of his life. Macky has dozens of prestigious mathematics awards from competitions around the country, and excels in all of his studies.
CubeFreak gives viewers a glimpse of the world behind the persona that is Macky... what drives him? Macky has been the subject of several Japanese television specials, an interview for National Public Radio, local news in Southern California, and numerous magazine and newspaper articles about Speedcubing. Along with Tyson, Macky is a major ambassador for the sport and has helped it become what it is today.

Leyan Lo
Originally from New Jersey, Leyan is both Tyson's friend and main source of competition. Fellow musician, fellow cuber, fellow Caltecher... Leyan is now a celebrity in his own right in the world of cubing and has earned his place among the elite.
Over the past two years, Leyan has ascended the ranks of the Speedcubers to step out of the shadows and reach the height of cubing achievement. Now entering his senior year in Physics at Caltech, Leyan is the current World Record holder for the Rubik's Cube 3x3 single solve with an incredible 11.13 second time. He also holds the current World Record for the blindfold solve with a time of 1:28.82, barely edging out the previous record held by Tyson Mao.

Sunil Pedapudi
At just 16 years old, Sunil has seen the rise of Speedcubing's popularity over the past several years. A friend of both Macky and Tyson, Sunil is an avid cuber who offers an inside look at the world of the cubers.
Sunil came to the US from India when he was in elementary school and befriended Macky in 6th grade at First Avenue Middle School in Arcadia, California. Sunil was one of the first students at FA to take up the cube, and formed the FA Cube Club along with Macky and some other FA cubers. Originally comprised of a small group of middle-schoolers, the club grew to include over 30 members and has continued to expand long after Macky and Sunil had gone on to high school.
Now going into his junior year of high school, Sunil is deep into the quest for college entrance and on a typical day is buried in mounds of homework for Honors and AP classes, so his time for cubing has become limited. Still an active member in the community, Sunil corresponds with cubers all over the world. In CubeFreak Sunil takes us inside the world of the cubers, from the first competitions held at Caltech to the World Championships in Orlando, Florida.
